Laatu
Storyline
Laatu tells the tale of a time when Punjab's rural districts' access to electricity was still being developed, and that too at a glacial rate. One seldom ever saw a home with electricity, and those who could afford it considered it as a luxury and displayed it as a mark of their affluence. The son of that family marries the daughter of the "laatuwalas" simply because he fell in love with her after seeing her at a wedding. The story of this movie centres around two such families, one with the bulb and the other without, but needing to obtain it. This movie is about how he manages to win over her and her family.
Review
Some movies establish their calibre immediately away, and this one made it quite evident that I hadn't been taken seriously. The reason I think so is because Karamjit Anmol's character, who is depicted as being older at the beginning of the movie, has a moustache that loudly proclaims, "I am fake."
The entire film is essentially a flashback tale addressed to patrons of Karamjit Anmol's tavern; in a few scenes, we can even make out director Manav Shah. Gagan Kokri, a rookie actor who plays Karamjit Anmol's buddy, develops feelings for Aditi Sharma after meeting her at a wedding. The man has no job and is the son of a man who takes part in a moustache competition since his father is so incredibly proud of his moustache. He is defeated by a villager from a different community who also happens to be the father of the girl Gagan Kokri's character adores.
It goes without saying that muchh di ldai pichhe ta besti krake cannot possibly patch things up for their children.
The plot then advances, and Rahul Jungral's character as an XEN of the electricity department is introduced. He also enjoys Aditi's portrayal of her character and makes sure to constantly stroke her father's ego, including by installing a bulb at their kaccha house, making them the only ones with this amenity.
Therefore, characters are weaved throughout all of this to support friendships, partnerships, and even Chunniyan Rangan Wale Bhai, to demonstrate how well the guy comprehends her beloved's colour preference...blah blah blah!
I didn't find the narrative to be very memorable. Who wants to know that getting people married back then was as difficult as finding a bulb? Well, duh!
The narrative was uninteresting and tedious. I felt compelled to frequently check my phone while also observing the giddy couples at a theatre with just a few other couples in lovey-dovey moods besides us, simply because that's what khaali theatres are for, right?
The conclusion arrives suddenly, leaving you wondering what the...
Anyway, let's discuss the actors.
Gagan Kokri: A newcomer to acting Gagan Kokri seems to have been the wrong choice for this historical drama. Only because he has the innocence to play a character that conveys honesty and ideals should he choose to do modern-day parts, in my opinion. He does need to work on how he conveys emotions and conversation, but since this is his debut movie, let's just hope he becomes better in the future.
Mr. Aditi Sharma Aditi, a fantastic performer, has the same appearance as Angrej and Subedar Joginder Singh. She doesn't really stand out in this movie because she hasn't changed in any of her prior ones. Nevertheless, I thought her dubbing sounded fantastic.
Karamjit Anmol: The actor provided some comic relief during the movie with his unexpected punches, but he was also unable to salvage this one.
Not truly the beloved bebe in this movie, according to Anita Devgn. Only the part where she was arguing with her mother-in-law at night while listening to her son's stories made me giggle.
Sardar Sohi: Although he tried his best, he fell short of doing his character's love of his moustache and pride in it justice. Yograj Singh, in my opinion, might have made a better decision.
Ashish Duggal: Excellent! With his excellent facial expressions and the ideal emotions, he was spot-on.
Inderdeep Gill He did well in the little time he had.
Harby Sangha: He was convincing as a lineman.
Richard Jungral I particularly like his performance. This man stood out from the crowd, especially as he strolled with his hands in his pockets and carried the dignity of his status in his shoulders. Superb!
Nisha Bano: She is attractive but not very noteworthy.
Prince Kanwaljit Singh: Did his part admirably and was a good fit for his role.
Malkit Rauni: Inappropriate usage
The music was groovy and did make us stamp our feet, but the last song that began after the film ended was a letdown since the girl who suddenly appears on screen is in stark contrast to what the eyes had been witnessing for the previous few hours.
